Careers in the Accounting Industry: Trends and Overview

Accounting careers are expected to continue an upswing in job growth with a 22% increase in jobs over the next decade, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

The accounting career track is as varied as business itself with opportunities across many sectors, both private, government and nonprofit.  While traditionally an accounting degree led to a career as an accountant, today there are many professional roads to travel after completing studies.

For example, an accounting degree can lead to careers in auditing, corporate taxation, management policy, and information systems. And that is just a start, because in addition to the literally dozens of different roles an accounting professional can perform, there is also the consideration of where they perform them. These places of employment can include:  corporations, a Big 4 Tax firms (KPMG, Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young) governments agencies, nonprofit organizations, or even independently.

There is really no shortage of options for accounting professionals.
