Career Advice for New Graduates: How to Find a Job Quickly

Business Degrees

In today’s economy, it can be tough for graduates to find a job even after they’ve spent the time and money to earn a diploma. However, several tips can help graduates obtain a well-paying job in their chosen field.

For instance, graduates can work as an intern or begin their career as a low-level associate for a company that features their dream job. Other tips include writing a professional resume and creating an online profile.

Tip 1: About Internships

Graduates with a marketing degree should consider accepting an internship as the position may give them an opening for a better job in their preferred company. Internships generally come with a low salary and may not result in a better job, but even when a higher paying position isn’t offered, the work experience is still worthwhile. Most graduates acquire internships through personal connections such as professors, family members or friends. However, graduates who lack contacts can obtain a valuable internship by reaching out to those in charge of their preferred companies.

Be sure to reach out to company contacts in the career field of your choice, in order to (at the least) land an internship.

Tip 2: Match Skills with Demand

After graduates acquire their healthcare degree, they should begin building their work skills to qualify for their dream job. Review career websites, such as Monster and Craigslist, to make a list of the qualifications that employers require. Graduates should then find ways to gain the needed qualifications. For instance, if job seekers intend to work in a high-level management position for a large hospital or corporation, then they will likely require leadership experience. Therefore, they should attempt to work in management for a small clinic or startup company to gain the needed skills.

Tip 3: Build a LinkedIn Profile

Students should consider setting up a LinkedIn profile during their last year of high school. Awards, extracurricular activities and current skills are informational items that they can include. On the profile, students should input their early job history even if the employment is basic such as working as a summer camp counselor or babysitter. As a person’s profile expands, he or she can replace their old jobs with new ones that are more professional.

Tip 4: Low Level Job Benefits

Business degree graduates can begin their career by working at a low-level position for a desired company. Over time, some people can use their current employment with the company to obtain an advanced position because many businesses prefer to promote internally. The method also permits graduates to acquire business contacts within the company, which can result in a promotion.

Use your current employment to take advantage of working your way up the corporate ladder.

Conclusion

College graduates should work at the best job that they can find, such as at a restaurant or basic office job, until they acquire their preferred employment. With a steady income, graduates can begin extending their resume. They can also take the time that they need to obtain their dream job.
