Veterinarian

Working as a veterinarian is one of the top animal jobs that you can have, but it does require quite a bit of schooling. After completing a four-year degree in a science-related major, you will need to attend veterinary school for four years. Then, you will need to do between one and three years of internships before you can branch out on your own. You can choose between working with smaller pets, horses and other barnyard animals or even wildlife.

Veterinary Technician

Veterinary technicians are some of the top animal jobs, and they don’t require a lot of schooling. As a veterinary technician, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a veterinarian and to assist him or her in the healthcare of animals. You will need to pursue a veterinary technician program, which is traditionally a two-year program. Then, you can become certified as a vet tech in your state.

Kennel Helper

Kennel helpers have plenty of options when it comes to working with animals. For example, you can choose to work in a vet’s office or at a boarding kennel. You won’t have to go to school to become a kennel helper; instead, you will learn what you need to know on an on-the-job basis. You will, however, need to have a strong love for animals.

Pet Groomer

Pet groomers can make surprisingly good incomes, and you don’t have to worry about attending a training program or becoming certified. Instead, you can work with an experienced dog groomer to learn the ropes. Dog groomers can open their own businesses, work with other groomers in a grooming shop or work at pet stores or veterinary offices.

Animal Trainer

There are all sorts of animal training jobs out there. You can train dogs and other domesticated pets, for example, or you could choose to work with horses. Many people enjoy positions working with circus animals, marine animals and more.

To become an animal trainer, you may choose to take a training program, but you don’t have to be certified. To work with wild animals, you might want to possess a higher-level degree in animal behavior.

Zoologists have the opportunity to care for zoo animals. A graduate degree in zoology or another related field will be required. Then, you can look for positions at zoos and other places where wild animals are kept and cared for.

Marine Biologist

If you would like to work with marine animals like dolphins, whales and more, you will need to possess a graduate degree in marine biology. You can then work at aquariums or zoos, or you can look for a job working for the government.
