Hospitality Degree

The hospitality industry can be an exciting industry to get into, and as the sector is so diverse, it provides all kinds of opportunities. But what steps do you need to take to get a good job in the industry? This article will explain.

1. Education

The most crucial step is education. Gaining a degree, certificate or other qualification in hospitality will help equip an individual with the knowledge they need to get into the hospitality industry, and prepare them for numerous different roles such as business management and even property development.

While many hospitality jobs are entry-level, the better jobs require at least some form of qualification. This will often be the first thing an employer will look for on a CV.

2. An understanding of the Industry

A thorough understanding of the hospitality industry is one of the most important factors in securing a good job. Some people don’t like the idea of work placements or graduate schemes, but these are an excellent way of gaining the skills that are needed for getting into the hospitality sector.

3. Presenting Yourself

Many people find it difficult to present themselves in the right way to a prospective employer, and this is essential in the hospitality business. Jonathan Galaviz, chief economist for Galaviz and Company in Las Vegas, told Monster.com that people are often not clear on their long term goals, and states they need to clarify what their career objectives are to impress a potential employer.

4. Second Language

This is an aspect that can sometimes be overlooked, but being able to speak a second language can aid an individual’s chances of getting a job in the hospitality sector.

5. Business Management Skills

Individuals that want to get into the hospitality industry will need to demonstrate strong business management and financial management skills. Having a strong foundation in these areas will also be crucial if a person ever wishes to pursue their own business in the hospitality sector.
