5 Celebrities Who Saw the Importance of Education

Late career changes can come to anyone’s life, regardless of their occupation or success. It’s just a matter of finding the right school and degree for you. Sometimes you realize late in life that you would rather be doing something different, finding your inspiration after working years in another field; sometimes you make a career change for more money or a better location. Regardless, if you’re thinking about going back to school to switch careers, you’re not alone. Even celebrities do it!

Take a look below at our top five celebrities who’ve given up the spotlight to go back and earn their degree.

Miranda made it to celebrity status with her roles in School of Rock and the Nickelodeon TV show Drake & Josh as the little sister, Megan. After those roles, she went on to star in her own Nickelodeon series, iCarly, which was a smash-hit for the network. She recently dropped out of the spotlight to head to USC to study film, where she hopes to take screenwriting classes to one day write her own movies like her idols Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, and Steve Carell.

Celebrity #2 – Cole and Dylan Sprouse

Okay, so that’s two celebrities, but if you’ve followed the Sprouse twins’ careers, you’ll know that they’re as inseparable on-set as off. Their first major role was the son in Big Daddy, followed by, once again, their own primetime hit The Suite Life of Zack and Cody for Nickelodeon. They both wanted to move on when they felt that the glory days of their show were over, and they both headed to NYU where Dylan is concentrating on video game design in Gallatin, and Cole is majoring in archeology.

Celebrity #3 – Steven Spielberg

Degree: Film

Maybe the last person you’d expect to head back to school after he began an entire film movement, literally inventing the blockbuster, Steven headed to California State University, Long Beach, where he had dropped out in 1968. He wanted to go back to school to thank his parents for the education opportunities they’d given him, and said in a statement, he also attended “as a personal note for my own family–and young people everywhere–about the importance of achieving their college education goals.”

Celebrity #4 – Alexander Ludwig

Degree: Theater/Performing Arts

ludwig

One of Hollywood’s most famous pretty boys, he’s had many minor rolls in Hollywood films, but became a celebrity in The Hunger Games, followed by the TV series, Vikings. He decided to study theatre at the University of Southern California, where he’s in the fraternity Phi Psi and balancing acting and his personal life. Lucky for his fans, Alexander says he plans to continue acting after graduation.

Celebrity #5 – Amanda Bynes

Degree: Fashion

A former actress, Bynes became world-famous with her role in All That, a hit sketch comedy show on Nickelodeon in the 90s. That lead her to her own spin-off series, The Amanda Show, followed by appearances in movies like Easy A, Hairspray, and She’s The Man.  Amanda has been interested in fashion design for many years, and has helped develop her own clothing lines in the past. She decided to attend the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Orange County to receive a formal education and acclimate to normal life. Her goal after graduation is to open her very own fashion line.
