Day in the Life of an HVAC Technician

Learn how to become an HVAC Technician

Being involved in HVAC tech work can be a massive challenge, and each day can bring new events and situations you have never encountered before. Because of that, it’s a deeply desirable career path that is worth looking into. You’ll be dealing with extreme temperature conditions most days, whether it’s too warm and humid or deeply cold, and this will make up a significant portion of your time spent as an HVAC technician. You’ll be required to repair and install new fittings most days, too, so you need to be up-to-date with your knowledge about the hardware you are using and replacing.

The fundamental aspects of your career, though, come from the fact that you will be spending your time doing a lot of repair work. Since getting the right temperature coming from the HVAC system is vital to long-term quality of life and safety for the people you are helping, you need to be able to get a good handle on the procedures for fixing up traditional HVAC systems, as well as more modern alternatives.

On an average day, you will find yourself using things like hammers, wrenches, drills and benders alongside a variety of support tools like thermometers and pressure gauges. The kinds of tools you will be using on any given day will change up, but the majority of the time you’ll be delving into the toolkit for one of the above.

Also, you need to be prepared for the chance of burns, strains and shocks that can occur from over-exerting yourself or using damaged or faulty HVAC equipment, or using equipment in the wrong way. It can be a hazardous job if you aren’t careful, so be sure to take your time and get your main procedure memorized as quickly as you possibly can when starting.
