Universal Technical Institute is a trade school and trade school system which specializes in technical training for the transportation industry. The school offers a number of degree programs in six major areas: automotive, motorcycle, marine, collision repair, diesel and industrial, and NASCAR.

These programs are offered through its various institutes which include the Universal Technical Institute, Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and Marine Mechanics Institute, and NASCAR Technical Institute.

Universal Technical Institute

The Universal Technical Institute branch of the school system includes degree programs in Automotive Technology, Diesel/Industrial Technology, and Collision Repair.

The Automotive Technology program is a 51-week program including advanced training from big name auto companies like Porsche, Nissan, BMW, and others. This program is available at all Universal Technical Institute locations.

In the Diesel/Industrial Technology program, students take 45 weeks to learn how to service various components of diesel vehicles, classes 3-8. Similar to the Auto Tech program, this program includes partnerships with diesel companies. This program is available at all Universal Technical Institute locations.

The Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology program is a 51-week, ASE/NATEF Master Certified program (in 5 industry standard auto body areas). It is based on the industry standard known as the ‘I-CAR Enhanced Delivery’ series. This program is available at the Houston, Long Beach, and Sacramento locations.

Other Courses

The NASCAR Technical Institute offers courses in Engines, Chassis Applications, Chassis Fabrication, Pit Crew, Finish Fabrication, and Advanced Fabrication and Aerodynamics. This program is available at the Mooresville, North Carolina location.

Courses at the Marine Mechanical Instituteare manufacturer-specific and include Capstone, Engines, Lower Units/Outdrives, Rigging, Fuel and Lubrication Systems, Electrical Systems, Diesel 1 & 2, Volvo Penta, Service Operations, Honda Marine, Yamaha Marine, Suzuki Marine, and MercTech 1 & 2. This program is available at the Orlando, Florida location.

The Motorcycle Mechanical Institute offers coursework of 48-102 weeks, including manufacturer-specific training. Courses include: Motorcycle Theory 1 & 2, Engines, Power Flow & Precision Measuring, Suspension & Chassis Systems, Machining Operations & Precision Measuring, Electrical A – Design & Operation, Vehicle Maintenance, Engine Troubleshooting & Noise Diagnosis, Performance Review Testing, Service Department Operations, Advanced Electrical Testing, Driveability / Performance Testing, and Elective Program(s) on a Specific Brand. This program is available at both the Orlando, Florida and Phoenix, Arizona locations.
